News & Notes from the
Gloria Dei Library

Come in where it is cool and check out these new additions to our collection.

Younger children will enjoy the story of Flat Stanley (JF E BRO). Poor Stanley. He’s a perfectly normal boy until one morning he wakes up flat. A witty and engaging classic sure to appeal to ages 4 to 8. Grace for President (JF E DIP) is the timely story of Grace who decides to run for political office. She learns about the electoral system, hard work and is an inspiring example of how to choose our leaders. This book is highly recommended for ages 5 to 9. Preschool to grade two children will love The Great Fuzz Frenzy (JF E STE), an over-the-top tale about fuzz. A big, red dog drops a green tennis ball down a prairie dog burrow, and a ‘fuzz reaction” erupts. The textured, chartreuse fuzz steals the show and plays up the humor in the text. This fun-filled story demands to be read aloud.

Pastor Jacobson has presented the library with a CD, Tenth Anniversary Hymn Festival (728.27 SOC), celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Society of the Holy Trinity and recorded at Kramer Chapel during the annual retreat of the Society held August 21-23, 2007 at Concordia Theological Seminary. Thank you Pastor Jacobson for this musical offering.

Crown Uptown Professional Dinner Theatre’s Church Basement Ladies Casserole/Hot Dish Cookbook (641.5 CRO) is a selection of the recipes submitted to the theatre to accompany the run of the musical comedy of the same name. Ten of the recipes were served for one week each during the run of the comedy. Tabitha Guild has given the library this tribute and celebration of church cooks and their dedication.

The Legend of Cessna (338.7 ROD) by author Jeffrey Rodengen chronicles Cessna’s extraordinary history, with information on Cessna’s newest models and a foreword written by academy award nominated actor and aviation enthusiast Harrison Ford. Jim and Vera Bothner have donated this lavishly illustrated and informative book.
