     Natural Church Development Team Concludes Work on Loving Relationships

The second NCD team organized to study Loving Relationships at Gloria Dei has concluded its work. The second NCD was formed in August of 2008 and has spent the past two years studying and lifting up Loving Relationships to the congregation. This followed the first NCD team’s work on the characteristic of Passionate Spirituality. Hopefully, the NCD team brought a greater awareness of Loving Relationships to the congregation through its efforts. In addition to participation in monthly meetings, a summary of the activities and action plans implemented by the NCD team over the past two years is listed below. Some of these activities and programs will continue indefinitely at Gloria Dei: the Caring Card Program, an e-mail prayer and praise line, and the Neighborhood Caring Program.

1. January-April 2009 – Engaged congregation in survey of Loving Relationships, identified eight broad themes from the survey and conducted affinity exercises to narrow the focus of Loving Relationships to two most prevalent themes from congregational survey: Caring/Nurturing and Belonging/Acceptance.

2. December 2008 – Caring Card Program implemented – cards prepared each week for 2-3 members, signed by members of the congregation, and sent to the member recipients.

3. June-July 2009 – Engaged in Bible study and identified scripture speaking to our two themes: Caring/ Nurturing and Belonging/Acceptance and commenced providing weekly scripture reading or passage to the congregation through the weekly bulletins and monthly newsletter.

4. Developed Loving Relationships spreadsheet - identified programs, ministries, ways that Gloria Dei currently

embodies Loving Relationships

5. Added prayer and praise line via e-mail

6. September 2009 – Unveiled Loving Relationship full length balloon poster at strategic locations in church

7. October 2009 – Hosted an informational fair regarding Gloria Dei small groups/committees for congregation in conjunction with Stewardship Time & Talent – focusing on belonging/acceptance theme

8. February 2010 – Held an anniversary recognition and reception for couples honoring those who embody Loving Relationships by being married 50 years or more

9. September 2010 – Neighborhood Caring Program implemented

The members of the Loving Relationships NCD Team were: Anna Flynn, Zoe Hoyle, Joy Leimer, John Buckner, Joan Bowen, Jeremy Koehler, Mike Honas, Tom Yingling, Marilyn Wasser, Jana Abbott and Pastor Jacobson. The NCD team also expresses its thanks to Randy Johnson who gave of his talents in preparing the Loving Relationships balloon poster.
