Social Ministry Committee Mandate
In
order to support the ministry of SERVICE, there shall be a Social
Ministry Committee. Remembering
Christ’s call to minister to those in need, this congregation shall live by
faith active in love. This
committee shall motivate, equip, and support
members to minister to the poor and
distressed, to serve as Christians in the institutions and structures of
society, to foster justice, to overcome oppression, to alleviate suffering and
care for God’s creatures and creation, working with and through both secular
and church sources for assistance and funding.
This committee shall be responsible for, but not limited to: Service
Circle; transportation; Saturday
Servants; Wellness and Parish Nursing; Stephen Ministry; Thrivent;
programs related to world hunger and disaster response of the ELCA; CROP walk;
local hunger concerns; programs of direct and indirect assistance to ease human
suffering and deprivation; Lutheran World Relief endeavors; congregational
programs to meet human needs; advocacy on behalf of the poor, oppressed, and
disenfranchised; in gatherings related to various agencies of the church; foster
justice and equality for all God’s children.
